London-based three-piece mary in the junkyard have dropped their new single, ‘Ghost’. The track is as musically unique as their previous efforts, with an emotive lead vocal inspired by Joni Mitchell’s poeticism, sitting above a lattice-like accompaniment that perfectly places the guitar between the tight rhythms of the drums and bass. Despite remaining ballad-like for the majority of its runtime, there’s something almost punky about the way the track bursts into gentle distortion in its final moments. “‘Ghost’ is a song about light, and finding a fresh start - it's our most joyful to play together because of the ooweeoos and the howling and the big breezy key change,” they say. “It's about the love in new friendships and the excitement of finding new wisdom.” mary in the junkyard are touring the UK this March. -Dan Peeke
